The Mosque is located on the edge of Hounslow town centre in the London Borough of Hounslow. It is located close to the town of Whitton and near to Hounslow Heath Nature Reserve. Adjacent to the Mosque is also a primary school “The Heathland School”, which takes pupils in the day, evening and weekends. The centre is also well-known among Muslims and other faith communities for its wider services.
A baseline survey was completed in May 2008 and showed that on a Friday:
· Only 20% of the congregation travel by single occupancy car as the main mode of transport to the Mosque.
· 35% of the congregation currently car shares
· Walking accounts for approximately 25% of main modes of transport.
· Public transport was used by a 19% of the congregation on the Friday, with buses used more than rail or underground.
· There was a very low usage of cycling, with only 1% of the congregation cycling
